Sensei Jesse Torres
In 1996, I was a Marine Corps officer assigned to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. I happened upon my Sensei Paul's dojo in Carlsbad and began working toward my Black Belt in
Goju Ryu Karate. At the end of my Marine Corps obligations, I moved back to Washington state, my childhood home, and settled in Kent with my wife Kirstin, and our (then) small children. Before leaving for Washington, I was invited by Sensei Paul, my karate teacher and owner and chief instructor of Goju Karate Center in Carlsbad, to open a branch dojo, which I did in March of 2000. I love teaching karate and helping people grow both physically and mentally through training at the dojo. Karate has changed my life for the better and I'm grateful for the opportunity to make it a positive influence in the lives of my students and their families.
